Daily Maintenance & Trouble Shooting

Always run your filter a minimum of 12 hours per day. There is no such thing as running your filter too much! Stagnant water turns GREEN fast.

What ever style of filter you have whether it is Sand, Cartridge, or D.E. make sure to clean and maintain your filter. Remember to look at your filter systems pressure gauge, it will tell when to clean your system. Your filter system should run between 10 and 14 PSI. Any time it exceeds 20 lbs make sure to backwash the sand, clean the cartridge, or change your D.E filter powder. It doesn't hurt to clean your filter every week during heavy use.

Alkalinity, pH, Stabilizer and Hardness should be maintained. Test your pool twice a week. After adjusting the Alkalinity, Hardness and Stabilizer it usually stays constant. Ph may fluctuate throughout the year. You only lose Alkalinity, Hardness or Stabilizer by losing water either by splash out or at the end of the year when you drain some water out of your pool. Unbalanced water can be very damaging to pool components, cause skin and eye irritation, and consume more chlorine.

Shock your pool weekly. One gallon of 15% liquid shock treats 10,000 Gallons of water. Shocking your pool is best to do at night time. When shocking your pool remove the solar cover. Wait 4 hours before putting the solar cover back on your pool.

Always have the solar cover on when you are not using the pool. You add heat during the day and save on evaporation of pool water which is also a huge source of heat loss. If your pool is not going to be used for any length of time during warmer months leave the cover off. Example: If you are away for a week on vacation in July, it's best to leave your pool uncovered. The warmer that water gets the more aggressive it gets and algae will grow faster!

Whenever adding chemicals all you need to know is how many gallons of water you have. Example 24 Ft round flat bottom pool is about 14,500 Gallons. To shock your pool you would want to add 1.5 Gallons of 15% liquid Chlorine Shock per week. It is possible that you would want to use the full 2 gallons if it is an exceptionally hot week. All chemicals have instructions on the back to determine the amount based on how many gallons you have.

To figure out how many gallons of water your pool has, use the following equations.

ROUNDS
Radius x Radius x 3.14 x Average Depth of pool in feet x 7.5

OVALS
Length x Width x Average Depth of pool in feet x 7.5

NO DIVING PERIOD! NO JUMPING INTO THE POOL!

If water OR liner becomes slippery or water starts getting cloudy you are starting to get an algae BLOOM. At this point you want to shock your pool hard with 15% Liquid Chlorine shock and add POOL POWER ALGECIDE according to pool size and severity of algae bloom.

If you wake up to a green pool, use 15% Liquid Chlorine shock and POOL POWER ALGAECIDE to kill the algae. It is possible that after getting algae that the pool may stay cloudy, that is the dead algae that the filter can't catch. If this happens you want to use a Hydro-Floc to settle those particles to the bottom of the pool, then VACUUM TO WASTE!
